Primary Pilates Education: Fletcher Foundational Teacher Training Program
Additional Education/Training: Kung Fu, Tai Chi, and Aikido.
Teaching Style: My preferred teaching style is an energetic awareness approach to movement.
Special Interest or Focus: Lower hemisphere pliability and strength.
Why do you practice Pilates? I practice Pilates to keep my body pliable when I play piano or my favorite sports. I've suffered from low back pain since I was a teenager. It's an ongoing process, and yet I've found more confidence in moving with ease. I keep up with Pilates because I want to keep up with my (future) children. I keep up with Pilates because it enables me to acknowledge the privileges I have as an able bodied person.
Edelmar's Teaching Philosophy
I believe we have an innate ability to heal ourselves. My job is not to heal the other person but rather to facilitate their own process of healing and connection. I start out teaching the alphabet of Pilates, then start creating words, then put sentences together. I do my best to create a connection to something familiar to my client. If someone has training in martial arts, I approach from an energetic standpoint. If someone is intellectualizing Pilates, I start there and encourage them to calm their thoughts and dial into what the body feels.
