Primary Pilates Education: Fletcher Foundational Teacher Training Program
Favorite tunes for self-practice: Too many to list! Always in rotation: Aretha Franklin's Gold, Paul Simon's Graceland, and Sufjan Stevens's Say Yes! To Michigan!
Teaching Style: Joyful. Curious. Encouraging. Fun. Full disclosure: Sometimes I have trouble controlling my Pilates puns, jazz hands, and silly voices.
Special Interest or Focus: As writer and actor, I’m especially interested in the link between movement and creativity. My jam: Helping clients use movement as a tool for trusting themselves and battling perfectionism. I also love teaching beginning students and custom classes for special events.
What clients are saying ...
"Cristin ... you have been an excellent teacher for me. Thank you for opening up my world and body to Pilates and so many new awareness-es. I always look forward to our sessions, your caring and humor." - L.C.
Cristin's Pilates Journey
I was introduced to Pilates in 2007 while I was in law school in Tucson. Tucson happens to be the location of BodyWorks Studio, the Fletcher Pilates headquarters. A friend of a friend was certifying as a teacher there, and I was one of her student-teaching clients.
I quickly fell in love with the fluidity and spirit of the Fletcher work, especially the Floorwork. I’ve struggled with anxiety for much of my life. Practicing breathing and mindful movement saved me from being eaten alive by the Anxiety Monster during law school exams. Doing standing work with the Fletcher Towel even managed to pry my hunched shoulders from my earlobes.
I loved how energized I felt after each session. And over time, I loved how Pilates helped me feel present and comfortable in my own body.
Ron Fletcher said: You don’t apologize for filling your space. You say, “Here I am, filling my space!” You wear your space like a wonderful garment. I am immensely grateful for the feeling of filling my space that Pilates has given me. It is my goal and great honor to help my clients feel this way, too.
